The night before he passed away he called me on my cellphone to say he could see me in my seat in the bleachers (I am easy to spot because of where I sit) from his seat in the first row of the upper deck near the press box. I loved going to games with my dad and all the stories he told me. I'm at every home game and he's there with me.

Spring training is about to start. I am optimistic about this season, and I know my dad will be with me all the way. I grew up listening to Vince and Lou on the radio. Through the years, even when my dad and I didn't have much to talk about... there was always the Cubs.
Darrell Birkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03325864411082996463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2597013377178026904.post-87974164876798942312013-06-27T00:29:21.641-04:002013-06-27T00:29:21.641-04:00Good story. I began listening to their games in the mid '50s, when I was about 10, and they've been my team ever since. I remember many a hot Texas night, listening to then Cards announcer Harry Carey call a homer or a single by Stan the Man. We got cable then, and it was so cool to come home from school in Florida and see a game from Chicago. I watched them lose for two years, but it was baseball. Then, in 1984.... I was hooked and still am. Lord, please let us see a championship in our lifetime.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09147493561180566525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2597013377178026904.post-45782637280593232222013-01-13T20:44:05.524-05:002013-01-13T20:44:05.524-05:00Nice story, that's what baseball is really all...Nice story, that's what baseball is really all about.
Thanks for sharing,
Rick
Sportscasters Clubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10037507393688006211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2597013377178026904.post-7969004068948354842013-01-06T12:45:02.390-05:002013-01-06T12:45:02.390-05:00I lived in the opposite end of the spectrum being ...I lived in the opposite end of the spectrum being a White Sox fan and a Cubs hater.....but while I listened to WGN cheering for every team that played the Cubs, I miss Lou and Vince and laughing at Jack Brickhouse.
